The ribbon has been cut on the rededication of the US Army Reserve Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, wrapping up another successful partnership between Blinderman Construction and the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).
The $29M multi-year project was executed by Blinderman under a Design-Build contract, and incorporated the renovation of 4 buildings on the site. Interior upgrades included abatement and demolition of building interior, installing new hydraulic elevators in two buildings, constructing new offices, replacing all MEP systems, incorporating new sprinkler systems, and implementing cybersecurity improvements. Renovation work also included tuck-pointing, roof repairs, and full window and storefront entrance glazing replacement.
Site work integrated several value engineering advantages for the US Army. In replacing the asphalt pavement, the existing asphalt subgrade was chemically stabilized, eliminating the need for a costly new aggregate base and haul-off. Additionally, the design of the new fire line loop utilized an existing street connection and leveraged the site’s grading, to ensure minimum flow requirements were met without requiring a new exterior fire pump.
